Hold on tight, this hike is a long one!
This extensive loop starting from Cruz Del Carmen is simply stunning. It could have made it into our Top 3, but due to its length, we ranked it a bit lower.
You’ll pass through beautiful villages, lush forests, and enjoy breathtaking views.

Practical Information:
- Duration: 10 hours
- Loop: Yes
- Difficulty: 4/5
- Distance: 21 km
Step 1: Parking at Cruz del Carmen
You can park at the Mirador de Cruz del Carmen, which has around 30 parking spots. Alternatively, you can park in front of the restaurant opposite the parking lot.
Step 2: Descending Towards Chinamada
Head towards Chinamada. Very quickly, you’ll find yourself in a dense, magical forest. The trail then runs along large cliffs with magnificent viewpoints until you reach Chinamada.
Step 3: Down to Punta Del Hidalgo
Once in the village, follow the path and signs leading down to Punta del Hidalgo. Along the way, you’ll encounter stunning viewpoints such as Mirador hacia el Mirador hacia el Roque de los Pinos, Mirador Aguaide.

After landscapes reminiscent of the Grand Canyon, like those near Punta de Teno, you’ll finally arrive at Punta del Hidalgo.

If you still have energy, you can extend your walk to the Punta del Hidalgo Lighthouse.
Step 4: Climbing Back via Homician
If needed, there are several buses to San Cristobal de la Laguna, where you can catch another bus to Cruz del Carmen. Direct buses from Punta del Hidalgo to Cruz del Carmen are rare, but you can find schedules on Google Maps by setting up a public transport route.
For the more adventurous, you can make the ascent via Batan de Arriba. Start by climbing up through the village of Homician, which overlooks Punta del Hidalgo. The climb is steep after the village as you join the trail.
This continues for quite a while—about 35 minutes of steady climbing—until you reach a summit with a magnificent view.

Step 5: Through Batan de Arriba

S’enchaine ensuite de nombreuses descentes et montées.
Et puis, on arrive au village de Batan de Arriba qui est très beau avec des vignes dans le vallon.
Next, the hike involves numerous ascents and descents. You’ll eventually reach the beautiful village of Batan de Arriba, nestled in a valley with vineyards.
Step 6: Back to Cruz del Carmen
The return involves hiking along cliff faces. It’s not dangerous, but there are ropes to hold onto. After the next village, the path gets trickier. You’ll need to go down to the right after a small bridge, where the path becomes less maintained, but don’t worry—keep going.
You’ll then enter the enchanted forest, where you’ll climb stairs and endure a long, challenging ascent until you finally arrive back at Cruz del Carmen.
This hike offers an incredible adventure through Tenerife’s diverse landscapes, combining natural beauty, history, and a bit of adventure for those who seek it!
